2018 Municipal Election - Important Voter Information

VOTING PERIOD FOR THE 2018 MUNICIPAL ELECTION IS OCTOBER 12 – 22, 2018

VOTING METHOD | The Town of Hanover will be utilizing internet and telephone voting for the 2018 Municipal Election. Paper or mail-in ballots will not be used. Electors will be able to cast their vote online or by telephone from anywhere they have an internet or telephone connection, including at the Help Centre located at the Municipal Office, 341 10th Street, 2nd Floor.

VOTING PERIOD | Voting is extended for this election, beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, October 12th, 2018 and continuing until 8:00 pm on Monday, October 22nd, 2018. You can cast a vote 24 hours a day during the voting period.

VOTERS’ LIST | It is the responsibility of the Elector to ensure they are a qualified elector!
You can confirm your information by contacting the Municipal Office by email at civic@hanover.ca or by phone at 519.364.2780 x 1231. If you are not on the list or your information is incorrect, you will be required to visit the Municipal Office in person with acceptable voter ID. An Application to Amend Voters' List will need to be filled out in person.

HELP CENTRE |A Help Centre will be located at the Municipal Office, 341 10th Street, during the Voting Period (October 12 - 22) during regular office hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). Electors can be added to the Voters’ List and receive assistance and clarification on the election process, including access to the internet. There will be extended Help Centre hours throughout the voting period as follows:

Saturday, October 13 | 10:00am to 3:00pm                         Tuesday, October 16 | 4:30pm to 8:00pm

Thursday, October 18 | 4:30pm to 8:00pm                          Saturday, October 20 | 10:00am to 3:00pm

Monday, October 22 | 8:30am to close of voting at 8:00pm

WHAT DO I NEED TO VOTE? | Voters need to have a Voter Information Letter in order to vote. You should have now received your Voter Information Letter. This letter will have your instructions and your unique Personal Identification Number, required to log into the internet election site or onto the telephone election platform. If you plan on voting at the Help Centre you must bring your Voter Information Letter with you.

IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED A VOTER INFORMATION LETTER, please visit the Municipal Office during regular office hours or the Help Centre during the Voting Period, with identification to confirm your registration status and a new letter will be issued.

WHAT DEVICES CAN I USE TO VOTE? | Voters can use any device that connects to the internet including computers, tablets and smartphones. Voters can also use touch-tone telephones. Rotary phones cannot be used. There will be no paper ballots for this election.

CAN I VOTE? | Any person who on Election Day (October 22, 2018) meets the following qualifications is eligible to vote:

a)    is a Canadian citizen.

b)    is at least 18 years old on Election Day.

c)    resides in Hanover, or is the owner or tenant of land in Hanover, or the spouse of such a person.

d)    is not prohibited by law from voting.

WILL THE TOWN STILL HAVE SPECIALTY POLLS? | Specialty polls are not necessary with internet and telephone voting, however, election staff will be on-site at retirement homes and long-term care centres to answer questions or provide assistance during the extended voting period.
