Hanover is working with Food Cycle Science, a Canadian company which offers an innovative food composting solution in the form of FoodCyclerTM units. The partnership allows Hanover residents the opportunity to participate in an on-site food waste diversion solution that will reduce the amount of organic waste headed to the landfill. The Town will be offering 100 FoodCyclerTM units at a subsidized rate for residents, on a first come first serve basis.
An alternative to composting, FoodCyclerTM units, are a counter-top system that reduces food waste at home. Using a specialized grinding system, it produces odorless, nutrient -rich material that can be used as fertilizer. The FoodCyclerTM is capable of reducing food waste volume by up to 90% including meat, bones, pits and eggshells.
Interested program participants will have the option for unit sizes depending on their household needs:
- FoodCyclerTM FC-30 - 2.5L capacity and ideal for households of 1-2 people for $150.00 plus HST
- FoodCyclerTM Eco5 – 5.0L capacity and ideal for households of 3 or more people for $300.00 plus HST
