In 2022, the Town of Hanover (Town) initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to review the alternative methods to manage the leachate from the Hanover Walkerton Landfill Site. The study was necessary to ascertain the best long-term alternative for the management of leachate as the landfill continues to expand. Currently, the leachate is collected within the lined portions of the landfill site and then trucked to the Town’s wastewater treatment facility for treatment and disposal. The Town has retained the services of Cobide Engineering Inc. to complete a Schedule ‘B’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to identify the long-term landfill leachate management alternatives to ensure the preferred solution has the ability to service the Landfill’s future growth and anticipated needs.
EA process. An on-line Public Information Centre (PIC) has been established to present and obtain public input on the alternative options, evaluation process and the preliminary preferred solution. As of May 15, 2025, the PIC presentation and associated material will be available at https:/www.hanover.ca/hanover-walkerton-landfill-site-leachate-management-class-ea. Print copy of the PIC material can be reviewed in-person at the Town’s office during regular business hours. Comments relating to the PIC will be received until June 26, 2025, and incorporated into the final report.
All those interested in the project are urged to review the PIC presentation and associated materials. Comments received through the course of the study will be considered when selecting the preferred solution.
