Important Program Update
As of January 1, Hanover’s recycling program is now managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario. Visit circularmaterials.ca/recycleontario for more information.
New Recycling System
We’ve upgraded from Blue Boxes to Blue Wheeled Recycling Carts for easier handling and improved collection.
What’s New in Recycling?
You can now recycle:
- Paper-based beverage cups (coffee cups & lids)
- Personal care tubes (toothpaste, deodorant, hand cream)
- Black plastic containers (takeout trays)
- Ice cream tubs & frozen juice containers
- Flexible plastics & films (bread bags, chip bags, candy wrappers, bubble wrap)
- Foam packaging (meat trays, takeout containers, protective foam)
Plus expanded acceptance for:
- Cartons (juice, milk, soup)
- Hard plastic containers (detergent jugs, shampoo bottles)
- Paper products (greeting cards, notepads)
- Metal items (aerosol cans, aluminum foil)
Tip: Always empty and rinse items before placing them in your Blue Wheeled Recycling Cart.
Why This Matters
These changes make recycling simpler and more effective, helping Hanover reduce waste and protect our environment.
