Proclamations
At their meeting on September 15, Hanover Council approved revisions to the Town’s Flag and Proclamation Protocol Policy, enhancing clarity and aligning with best practices observed across Ontario municipalities.
Key Highlights of the Revisions:
- National Flag Half-Masting Protocol: The revised policy sets the half-masting period for the National Flag at 7 days, consistent with practices in 11 other Ontario municipalities.
- Town of Hanover Municipal Flag Protocol: A new protocol has been added for half-masting the Town of Hanover flag. This will occur in the event of:
- The passing of an active committee member appointed to a committee of council,
- The death of a prominent Hanover resident, or
- During a Town or regional period of mourning, sorrow, or solemn occasion shared by the community.
- Pride Flag Display: The Pride Flag will be flown beneath the Town of Hanover Municipal Flag at the Civic Centre from June 1 to 7 annually.
- Civic Centre Lighting Requests: Since 2025, the Civic Centre’s exterior lighting system can project colours. Requests for building illumination now follow the same process as proclamations.
- Request Form Added: A formal Request Form has been introduced to streamline submissions for flag raisings, proclamations, and lighting requests.
The updated policy ensures respectful recognition of significant events and individuals while maintaining consistency with municipal standards.
