The Town of Hanover, on behalf of the Hanover/Walkerton Waste Management Committee, is reminding residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste at the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event.
The free event will take place:
Saturday, October 17, 2026
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Public Works Yard
70 14th Avenue, Hanover
Residents of Hanover and Walkerton are encouraged to gather unwanted household hazardous materials and bring them for safe disposal. Trained professionals will be on site to receive, package, transport and store materials safely and in compliance with environmental regulations.
Proper disposal of hazardous materials helps protect the environment and keeps potentially dangerous substances out of landfills, waterways and household garbage.
Common items accepted include:
- Paint and stains
- Batteries
- Household cleaners
- Automotive fluids
- Aerosols and other hazardous household products
Residents are reminded that empty containers should be recycled or disposed of with regular household waste.
Many household hazardous materials can also be disposed of year-round through local collection programs, including pharmaceuticals, sharps, batteries, paint, motor oil, cell phones and energy-efficient light bulbs.
For more information and a complete list of accepted materials and year-round disposal options, visit hanover.ca/household-hazardous-waste.
Let's work together to keep our community safe, clean and environmentally responsible.
Please note: This event is for residential waste only. Hazardous waste from businesses, commercial operations and institutions will not be accepted.
