Precautionary Boil Water Advisory LIFTED for the Town of Hanover

Public Notice

HANOVER, ON  The precautionary boil water advisory issued by the Town of Hanover for residents and consumers on the Town’s municipal water system HAS BEEN LIFTED, effective immediately.

Accredited lab resampling test results confirm the water meets Ministry of Health regulated requirements and is safe to consume.

With the resample result that meets Ministry of Health standards, the Town of Hanover can confidently state that, as determined by our proactive assessment and analysis, the initial adverse result that prompted the boil water advisory was due to an inaccuracy with the sampling process. Throughout, the Town has maintained communication with Grey Bruce Public Health and they endorse the Town lifting the precautionary boil water advisory.

“A safe water drinking system is a priority and we will always choose to ensure the safety of our residents is first and foremost,” stated Mayor Sue Paterson. “I have confidence in our water treatment systems and our certified water operators who ensure our water is safe to drink. It is because of these established systems that we were able to proactively implement the initial advisory.”

The Town understands the precautionary measure caused concern for our residents. The steps taken and information shared throughout were to keep the public informed out of an abundance of caution.

While the adverse water sample has been deemed to be inaccurate, Grey Bruce Public Health does recommend that, as a further precautionary step, users of municipal systems do the following after a boil water advisory has been lifted:

  • Run cold water faucets, drinking fountains and plumbed-in drink machines to flush the system before using the water.
  • Remove, clean, disinfect and replace any aerators, screens or attachments on faucets.
  • Replace any filter cartridges that can’t be adequately flushed or disinfected.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
  • Flush, clean and sanitize any other water-using fixture or equipment using manufacturers’ instructions.
