As Local Government Week comes to a close, the Town of Hanover proudly highlights the dedicated teams that work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our community safe, vibrant, and welcoming. Each department plays a unique and vital role in shaping the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Here's a look back at the seven features we celebrated this week:
1. Parks, Recreation & Culture
Hanover’s Parks, Recreation & Culture team brings life to our community through parks, places, people, and programs. From maintaining outdoor and indoor amenities to organizing programs and special events, they help residents stay active, social, and healthy all year round.
2. Fire Department & Police Service
Our local heroes in the Fire Department and Police Service are committed to keeping Hanover safe. Engaged in the community and ready to respond 24/7, their dedication ensures peace of mind for all.
3. Administration
Working closely with Council, the Administration team handles finance, human resources, policy development, by-law enforcement, strategic planning, customer service, licensing, and more. They are the backbone of our local government operations.
4. Infrastructure & Development – Building Division
This division supports Hanover’s growth by guiding the building process from planning to development. They issue permits, conduct inspections, and ensure our Official Plan and Zoning By-law remain current and effective.
5. Infrastructure & Development – Public Works
Public Works keeps Hanover running smoothly by maintaining roads, sidewalks, water and wastewater systems, the cemetery, landfill, and seasonal services like fall leaf pickup. We also celebrated Water & Wastewater Treatment Operators Appreciation Day, recognizing their essential contributions.
6. Economic Development
Hanover is HIPP — and our Economic Development team ensures we stay that way! Through strategic initiatives and regional collaboration, they support local businesses and foster a thriving economy, keeping Hanover open for business.
7. Hanover Public Library
More than just books, the Hanover Public Library serves all ages with diverse formats of information, programs, and services. Recently designated as our Newcomer Resource Centre, the Library plays a key role in building an inclusive and informed community. We also celebrated Ontario Public Library Week in recognition of its impact.
