Residents may have noticed that the holiday tree located at the centre of Heritage Square has been declining in health over the past several months. Following further assessment, it has been determined that the tree is no longer thriving and will not recover. As a result, the tree is scheduled to be removed during the week of August 24 – watch for signage.
The holiday tree has been a prominent feature of Heritage Square since the park opened in 2003 and has served as the focal point of the annual Mayor's Lighting of the Square event, marking the beginning of Hanover's holiday season.
While we are sad to see this long-standing tree come down, plans are already underway to replace it. A new evergreen tree will be planted in Heritage Square later this fall.
Residents are asked to stay clear of the area during removal activities to help ensure a safe and efficient worksite.
The Town appreciates the community's understanding and looks forward to continuing this important holiday tradition for years to come.
