Hanover Announces Relocation of Fire Station to Enhance Emergency Response

HANOVER, ON – The Town of Hanover is proud to announce the relocation of its fire station to a new, net zero facility at 670 1st Street. This strategic move is part of the town’s ongoing commitment to improving public safety and ensuring efficient emergency response for all residents.

The new fire station, set to begin operations on Sunday December 8, 2024, is designed to better serve the growing needs of the community.  The facility will also feature modern amenities and upgraded equipment to support firefighters in their vital work.

Key features of the new fire station are:

  • Accessibility: The new site allows for quick access to major roads and neighbourhoods
  • Advanced Facilities: Equipped with upgraded technology and tools, the station provides firefighters with the resources needed to handle complex emergencies.
  • Sustainability: The building incorporates energy-efficient systems, aligning with the town’s environmental goals.
  • Community Space: Area for public education and community engagement activities, such as fire safety workshops and emergency preparedness training.

“This relocation is a significant step forward in our efforts to prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents,” stated Mayor Sue Paterson. “The new facility not only strengthens our emergency response capabilities but also reinforces our commitment to building a resilient and prepared community.”

An official grand opening of the new fire station will be held in the spring of 2025. At that time, members of the public will have the opportunity to tour the facility, meet firefighters, and learn about the essential services they provide.

Residents are reminded to be aware when driving in the area of the new firehall of our firefighter’s response on the way to the hall and our fire trucks on their way to calls. The purpose of the flashing green light is to inform other motorists that a firefighter is enroute to an emergency call such as a fire. To help support our firefighters you can, if safe to do so, yield the right-of-way by slowing down and pulling over to let firefighters pass by. This will help to ensure a quick response and could help save lives!
