SAUGEEN REGION – On Saturday, October 26, 62 participants embarked on an unforgettable journey through the Saugeen area as part of the Saugeen Culture Bus Tour, a community event made possible by an investment from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Departing from Hanover, Arthur and Harriston on three dedicated buses, attendees discovered the unique culture, rich history, and hospitality that define the region, marking this event as a seasonal highlight.

Participants were treated to carefully curated stops, each reflecting a distinct aspect of the Saugeen Region:

  • Silver Fox Distillery (Arthur) – A stop at this renowned distillery offered guests an informative tour and tasting.
  • Mount Forest Museum and Archives – Guests delved into the area’s history through exhibits at the museum and enjoyed a lunch provided by Misty Meadows Market (Conn).
  • The Barrel House (Clifford) – Attendees witnessed a traditional barrel firing demonstration, enjoyed a signature butter tart, and received a bottle of raspberry vinegar.
  • Casa Verde Imports (Arthur) – Each participant received a hand-crafted ornament.
  • Grey Wellington Theatre Guild at the Harriston Town Hall – Participants were given a special behind-the-scenes tour of the town hall, with a preview of the Guild’s upcoming production of Anne of Green Gables.
  • Hanover Civic Theatre – A tour and demonstration by the Town Crier introduced guests to Hanover’s community spirit. The Hanover Community Players educated guests on the creation of the props being prepared for their upcoming production of The Sound of Music. This stop was complete with locally-made donuts from Schultz Bakery (Hanover) and coffee or tea from Ashanti  (Hanover).
  • Stone Stories at Hanover Cemetery – Led by local historian Al Morrow, this historical tour of Hanover Cemetery invited participants to reflect on the compelling stories and heritage woven into the fabric of the Hanover community.

The event showcased the charm, talent, and stories that make the Saugeen Region a distinctive destination for visitors and locals alike.

“It was a fun day. Friendly tour (bus) guides. Great lunch and snacks from the different stops. Enjoyed seeing the theatres,” said one attendee. “I hope I can do another tour with you.”

“We are new residents, and it was a great way to see the area,” commented another attendee.

Organizers extend their gratitude to the Government of Canada’s Tourism Growth Program for its support, enabling this memorable day of exploration and connection.
