Town of Hanover to Dedicate Newcomer Resource Centre at the Hanover Library During Welcoming Week and Culture Days

The Town of Hanover is proud to announce the official dedication of its Newcomer Resource Centre on Saturday, September 20th, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Hanover Public Library. This milestone event is part of Hanover’s Welcoming Week and Culture Days celebrations, underscoring the Town’s commitment to fostering inclusion, diversity, and community connection.

The Newcomer Resource Centre is a new initiative designed to support newcomers to Canada and new residents to Hanover. It offers welcome packages and settlement resources to help individuals and families feel at home and thrive in the community.

“The Newcomer Resource Centre is a reflection of Hanover’s commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive community,” said April Marshall, Economic Development Manager for the Town of Hanover. “We’re proud to offer a space where new residents can find the support and resources they need to thrive.”

Mayor Sue Paterson added, “Hanover is a community that values diversity and connection. This initiative is a meaningful step toward ensuring every newcomer feels seen, supported, and celebrated.”

The dedication event will begin with a social gathering featuring cultural food options, followed by a formal program including a ceremonial cry by Hanover’s Town Crier and remarks from local dignitaries. Guests will then be invited to the Community Hall for a cultural dance performance led by the Hanover Women’s Collective, with an open invitation for attendees to join in a social dance.

“Libraries are gateways to community and knowledge,” said Carolyn Caskanette, CEO/Chief Librarian of the Hanover Public Library. “We’re excited to be part of this initiative, helping newcomers access resources and build connections in Hanover.”
