The Town of Hanover is pleased to welcome the expansion of Elephant Thoughts’ workforce development programming within the community, strengthening local opportunities for youth and job seekers while supporting long-term economic growth.
The expansion builds on previous municipal investments in the 612 10th Street facility that offers hands-on training infrastructure, including a state of the art kitchen, welding shop and wood shop, which continue to be used as intended to provide young people with real-world experience that builds confidence, practical skills and a sense of possibility, while supporting workforce development and our employers.
Founded in 2002, Elephant Thoughts is a local charity that has worked with schools and communities across Canada and internationally to deliver experiential education rooted in values of equality in education, environmental stewardship and global citizenship.
The local expansion is supported by a $200,000 commitment from Meridian Credit Union to deliver its Reframe job training and support programming through Elephant Thoughts. Reframe is designed to help residents prepare for employment through hands-on training, financial coaching and post-program support.
“This expansion reflects the kind of community-driven approach we value in Hanover,” Mayor Sue Paterson said. “By supporting residents with practical skills and real pathways to employment, programs like Reframe strengthen our local economy and benefit both workers and employers.”
The program expansion coincides with the opening of Elephant Thoughts’ youth training centre in Hanover. The facility includes hands-on learning spaces and The Bodega, a youth-run cafe that provides real-world job experience. The public can anticipate the cafe’s opening later in May.
“Hanover is investing in its youth because they are our future workforce, entrepreneurs and community leaders,” Economic Development Manager April Marshall said. “We want young people to see the value of putting down roots here and building their lives, careers and sense of belonging right at home.”
The Town of Hanover recognizes this initiative as a strong example of collaboration that supports workforce development, youth, skill development and community well-being, and thanks Meridian Credit Union and Elephant Thoughts for their investment in local training opportunities.
