Heat Warning in Effect

The Town of Hanover is reminding residents and visitors to take precautions during the current heat warning. High temperatures and humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, people with chronic health conditions, and those who work or spend extended periods outdoors.

To help residents stay cool, the following Cooling Centres are available during regular facility operating hours:

Hanover Civic Centre

Hanover Public Library

Hours:

  • Monday to Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Hours:

  • Monday & Friday: 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday to Thursday: 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Attend community recreation facilities, including:

Stay Hydrated

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Drink plenty of cool water throughout the day.
  • Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces when possible.
  • Wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing.
  • Never leave children, older adults, or pets unattended in vehicles.

Those attending the Town's Canada Day celebrations are encouraged to bring water and stay hydrated throughout the event.

Look Out for One Another

Extreme heat can affect anyone. Please check in on family members, friends, neighbours, and others who may be more vulnerable during periods of high heat and humidity.

Pet Safety

Keep pets safe in the heat by limiting outdoor time, ensuring constant access to fresh water and never leaving them unattended in parked cars.
